Slovenia issues Statements of Grant for International Trademarks

The Slovenian Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) has begun the issue of Statements of Grant of Protection for International Trademarks designating Slovenia.

The new provision, according to new Rules 18bis and 18ter of the Common Regulations under the Madrid Agreement, will apply to all marks having an application date of January 1, 2011 or later. Under this new provision, SIPO will send official Statements of Grant to WIPO that registrations have been granted protection in Slovenia; the issuance of the statements will start in April 2011.  This change is very important for trademark owners who were not formally informed about the status of their international registrations in Slovenia until now.
